Everyday Things to Burn Calories

Did you know, that for an average person, you must burn 3,500 calories to lose one pound of weight? That seems like a lot, especially since to maintain weight, most people need 2,000 calories per day to just maintain weight. To lose weight, many people only take in 1,500 calories per day and then seek to burn 2,000 calories a day. Doing this for seven days will amount to one pound shed per week.  Again, losing weight is simply burning more calories than you take in. One of the ways to reverse heart disease  is to lose weight and adopt a healthy diet. But, there are some surprising, everyday things you can do to burn calories that you can add to your daily routine. In fact, many of these activities take less than 30 minutes and burn 100 calories. While still minding your calorie intake, doing some of these simple things, 7 days a week, means you could shed 10 pounds a year. Not bad!
Tai Chi for 22 Minutes
Tai Chi is a low exertion workout that gets incredible results. It is about rhythmic movement for your entire body, which makes it very synergistic. As you progress with Tai Chi, a lot of the work is on balance and posture, which is great for strengthening your core, while burning calories.
Stairs for 11 Minutes
If you have stairs, no need to sign up for that expensive step aerobics class. Put on some good tunes and just go up and down the stairs at a regular pace for 11 minutes. Before you know it, you will have listened to a few songs and burned 100 additional calories. Not to mention, you will have added some key core and lower body strength training, giving you a good cardio workout.
Ironing for 38 Minutes
The motion of ironing your clothes, while standing, burns a surprising amount of calories. The standing strengthens you core and the ironing itself helps tone your arms. Of course, you will want to alternate hands. Plus, you will enjoy the added benefit of having wrinkle-free clothes.
Vacuuming for 25 Minutes
Like ironing, vacuuming works the arms while encouraging steps. You will get 100 calories burned while enjoying a clean carpet.
Shop for 38 Minutes
Whether it is hitting the mall or the grocery store, you will likely get a lot of walking in. The grocery store helps even more when dealing with pushing a cart and reaching up on store shelves.
Rake Leaves for 21 Minutes
Now you don’t have an excuse for leaves accumulating on your lawn.
Mow the Lawn for 16 Minutes
Us summer warriors know that that push lawnmower can be a workout. But, just mowing for 16 minutes shreds 100 calories. Knowing that, you may even want to volunteer to cut your neighbors’ grass.
Shoveling Snow for 15 Minutes
When it is winter, you need something to replace mowing the lawn, right? Shoveling the driveway is a great, all body workout. Just remember to bend and lift the shovel with your knees, especially when dealing with the heavy and wet snow of the fall and spring.
