Dr. Lee MacDonald is originally from North Dakota, growing up in the Boulder area and attending Niwot High School. He received his bachelor of science in Engineering/Physics in 1992 from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his medical degree at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. MacDonald then received postgraduate training at Northwestern University in Internal Medicine, a Clinical Cardiology Fellowship and an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship. In the summer of 2003, this highly recruited physician chose to return to Colorado to practice cardiology and joined South Denver Cardiology Associates.

Dr. MacDonald is board-certified in nuclear cardiology, cardiology and interventional cardiology, and brings intensive skills to SDCA including intense training in coronary interventions (balloon and stent angioplasty), as well as certification for Nuclear Medicine Studies. His clinical interests center around coronary artery disease and management of acute myocardial infarction, and he joins as an eighth physician in an active, highly skilled interventional team at SDCA. He is also certified to perform percutaneous PFO and ASD closures.

Among Dr. MacDonald’s awards is an election to the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society as an undergraduate (1991) and election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (1996). He was named Chief Cardiology Fellow at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and also received the Cardiology Fellow Forum of Excellence Award from the American Heart Association (2001). He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and a Fellow of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). He has many publications including 2 major New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) publications.  Dr. MacDonald is also the Cardiovascular Medical Service Line Director for Advent Health Rocky Mountain Region and the President of South Denver Cardiology.

Lee is married and has three beautiful daughters.
