Cardiologist recipe – Lower Your Cholesterol Apple Crisp

Lower Your Cholesterol Apple Crisp
Here is a great desert that will help to bring down your cholesterol with the added properties of the plant sterols. You can now have your dessert and still enjoy life without the guilt.
Ingredients:
5 all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced
½ cup brown sugar
1T flour, regular or gluten free such as Cup4Cup available at William’s Sonoma
1t cinnamon
For the topping:
5 Corazonas Oatmeal Squares with Cranberry and Fax
½ cup flour, GF as an option, see above
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ t baking powder
¼ t baking soda
6T BENECOL® margarine with plant sterols, 6T equals approximately ½ cup melted product
Preheat oven to 3500F. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, flour and cinnamon. Toss to coat. Place into a 9×13 inch casserole.
Prepare topping. In a small food processor, combine the 5 oatmeal squares. Pulse until coarse chopped. In a large bowl, add the sugar, flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add oatmeal squares. Add margarine, crumble with hands until size of peas. Layer on top of apples. Bake 40-45 until bubbly and browned.
