Susan Buckley

RDN, CLT 

A native of California, Susan graduated with a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, MO. After completing her internship with the St. Louis Veterans Administration, Susan began her career as a Registered Dietitian working for the Child Care Food Program, a USDA food program devoted to proper nutrition for children. Honoring her passion for weight management and good health, she started her own private consulting business, working with clients with a myriad of health issues ranging from heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity, before coming to South Denver Heart Center in 2004. Now Susan provides her wealth of knowledge as a Registered Dietitian, and co-contributor to Cooking with Heart, South Denver’s cookbook. She is also co-author of The Kardea Gourmet; Smart and Delicious Eating for a Healthy Heart. Susan teaches a number of Wellness classes at South Denver Cardiology; including heart-healthy lectures as well as classes in Cholesterol Basics, Diabetes and Understanding Your Lab Values. Susan also does extensive work with patients with food allergies and sensitivities. Having been overweight most of her life and then losing over 70 pounds 20 years ago (her story was featured in O, The Oprah Magazine), Susan knows most diets DON’T WORK long term. The only thing that does work is changing your lifestyle and making a life-long commitment to healthy living. Her motto is “Enjoy good food AND good health.” Susan and her husband enjoy the active Colorado lifestyle including hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. They have two grown daughters in the Denver/Fort Collins area.
