Dr. Ira Dauber was born and raised in New York City (and still maintains his allegiance to New York sports!). He earned both his undergraduate degree (BS in Biomedical Engineering) and his medical degree from Cornell University. The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center beckoned him for Internal Medicine training, where he also received a fellowship in Cardiovascular-Pulmonary Research Training and served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Dauber then completed his education during his Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC).
He remained on the faculty for five years as Assistant Professor of Medicine, serving as the Assistant Director of the Cardiac Transplant and Heart Failure Programs for his last two years at the University. The opportunity to practice with a former UCHSC colleague (Dr. VanBenthuysen) brought Dr. Dauber to South Denver Cardiology in 1991. He maintained strong ties to the University and was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine. Teaching remains a strong interest, and he supervises University Family Medicine residents as well as residents in the Swedish-HealthOne Family Medicine Residency.
Dr. Dauber is “triple-board certified” in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Critical Care Medicine. He has additional special interests in interventional cardiology, congestive heart failure, and assessment of the quality of cardiovascular care. Dr. Dauber has authored over twenty chapters and scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He maintains an active role in clinical research in his capacity as a research director at South Denver Cardiology. He is a member of nine medical and honor societies. He has been named a “Top Cardiologist” in Colorado as well as one of the “Top Cardiologists” in Colorado by his peers.
Dr. Dauber is married to Dr. Sylvia Brice, a dermatologist at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. They have two children who are his focus of attention. He enjoys coaching and watching them play. In addition to his impressive list of academic and professional credentials noted above, his softball team, which he has managed and which he still plays, for over 20 years (despite a won-loss record too dismal to report), remains one of his most distinctive accomplishments.
